Donald Trump-Kim Jong-un Working Lunch: Know They Ate Over Denuclearisation Talks

DONALD Trump and Kim Jong-un have come together for dinner that was Korean stuffed cucumbers, octopus and French pastries filled with cream at their high powered lunch in Singapore.

 Trump is a notoriously picky eater, while Kim specifically requested a type of cold noodles made by a restaurant in Pyongyang when he dined with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at their meeting in April

Menu included retro classics like Haagen-Dazs ice cream, prawn cocktail, raised eyebrows for being “fit diet of 50s”.

The leaders’ historic handshake took place at the Capella Hotel in front of a sea of US and North Korean flags. DONALD Trump and Kim Jong-un then headed into the resort, on Singapore’s Sentosa Island, for an initial one-on-one meeting, plus interpreters, which lasted 38 minutes.

And it’s an interesting menu, featuring a selection of a Korean, Malay and Western dishes.

Following a short break they held further talks with their entourages and then broke for a bit of post chit chat tucker.

Perhaps Oiseon, a Korean meal of stuffed cucumbers? Or the “traditional” prawn cocktail served with avocado salad. The final choice was hardly cordon bleu and will be remembered by many who went to a dinner party at any point during the 1970s.

To begin, Mr Trump and Kim could choose green mango kerabu with honey lime dressing and fresh octopus. Kerabu is a rice dish that is popular on the Malay Peninsula, off the southern tip of which Singapore lies.

For the main course, Mr Trump and Mr Kim could choose beef short rib confit served with dauphinoise potatoes and steamed broccolini with a red-wine sauce on the side.

Rounding off the mains in the Korean Daegu jorum dish which is soy braised cod fish with radish and Asian veggies.

There’s also sweet and sour crispy pork with Yangzhou fried rice and a homemade XO chilli sauce. Yangzhou fried rice is essentially the special friend rice with prawns, peas and egg, we’ve all got from the takeaway at some point.

If there was room for dessert, the pair could dig into dark chocolate tartlet ganache or Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream with cherry coulis. It’s notable that Haagen-Dazs, an international brand name, has made its way onto the menu prepared for a communist dictator from a country where Western brands are generally frowned upon. There’s no Macca’s in Pyongyang.

Finally, they could opt for the Tropezienne. This French dessert is named after the famed Mediterranean beachside resort of St Tropez and consists of a brioche bursting with whipped cream and dotted with crispy pearl sugar.

Delicious the choices may be, but they could hardly be called modern or adventurous. “Prawn cocktails and sweet and sour pork for the two leaders. A menu fit for the 50s,” declared Channel 10’s Hugh Riminton.

The pastry was created in 1955 during the production of film classic And God Created Woman and named by actor Brigitte Bardot who declared it should be known as “La taste de St Tropez.”

Let’s just hope Trump and Kim don’t have a food coma following their lunch and can continue their discussion without the need for a bit of a nap.
